The Locative Cinema Commission is a joint project of ZER01: The Art and Technology Network, the Banff New Media Institute at The Banff Centre, and Sundance Institute's New Frontier Initiative.
We are soliciting proposals that can generalize the platform of specific places such as San Jose, California,Banff, Canada, or Park City, Utah to describe the world that you want people to see.
The commission will be realized via a residency at the Banff New Media Institute, to be completed by July 2010. The new work will be presented at the 2010 01SJ, the 2011 Sundance Festival, and the 2011 Banff Summer Arts Festival. As such, the work must be realizable in San Jose, Park City, and Banff.
There is a 4,500 USD artist commissioning fee, up to 5,000 USD for production and residency costs, plus substantial in kind support from The Banff Centre. In addition, reasonable presentation costs, including necessary travel, will be covered.

Exhibition: Pilgrimage Through the Centuries is an exhibition intended to integrate contemporary interpretations of “pilgrimage” with traditional and historical ones. Artists are encouraged to submit work that speaks to and exemplifies the concept/practice of pilgrimage in their own lives. The scope of the exhibition is intentionally broad embracing the most traditional interpretation of this idea as well as the most abstract. Themes of the work could include, but are not limited to: personal journeys, the relevance of pilgrimage in contemporary life, historical accounts of pilgrimage, reflections on historical and/or personal pilgrimage sites…
Artwork submissions now being accepted for an exhibition titled, Pilgrimage Through the Centuries, at the LeFevre Art Gallery on the OSU-Newark Campus. The exhibition is being planned in conjunction with the activities surrounding Newark Earthworks Day 2009 in Newark, Ohio.
Newark Earthworks Day is public educational event celebrating Native American culture, art, and music. This year’s theme, “Newark Earthworks: A Place of Pilgrimage,” addresses the notion of the journey as it relates to the geographic and social history of the Newark Earthworks. This year’s event includes a “Walk with the Ancients” in which participants will trace the 60 mile path of the Great Hopewell Road that linked earthworks in Chillicothe and Newark. The walk will begin in Chillicothe on October 10 and will finish in Newark on October 16. Submission Guidelines: All images of work should be submitted in digital format. All media and format will be considered. Artists can submit images of up to 5 works (from which up to 2 works may be chosen for the exhibition). All submissions must be accompanied by a 250 artist statement linking the work to the exhibition theme. Already completed work and work previously exhibited work will be considered if its relevance to this topic can be demonstrated. All work should be submitted in digital format.

CALL FOR ENTRIES: ROY G BIV 20th Anniversary Juried Exhibition Online Submission Now Available
Dear ROY G BIV Supporters,
We are getting excited about our 20th Anniversary Juried Exhibition! With the Call for Entries deadline being only three weeks away, we understand that a busy schedule may lessen the time available to prepare and send in a physical entry. For your convenience, we are now accepting entries via email.
Save on postage and send us your 20th Anniversary Juried Exhibition entries to ROYGBIV20th@gmail.com. Just make sure to follow the entry procedures below – instead of dealing with burning a CD, all you need to do is attach your files. In the body of the email include: Your Name, Address, Phone, and E-mail.
Entry Procedure
For e-mail consideration, the artist must submit 2 jpg formatted files that are no larger than 1MB. Files should be labeled with the artist’s last name as followed: lastname01.jpg and lastname02.jpg.
Installation artists can submit 2 jpgs (1MB) for each installation for the total of 4 images. Files should be labeled with the artist’s last name as followed: lastname01a.jpg,lastname01b.jpg, lastname02a.jpg and lastname02b.jpg.
Video artists can submit 2 videos. Video as Quicktime (.mov) files with 740 X 480 aspect ratio for widescreen or 640 X 480 for fullscreen. The first two minutes of each video will be reviewed. Submissions should not exceed a playing time of 10 minutes per video. Files should be labeled with the artist’s last name as followed: lastname01.mov and lastname02.mov.
Submissions must include a brief artist statement (500 words or less), and an image/video list (number, title, date of work, and dimensions/playing time).
No other supplemental materials will be taken into consideration during the jury process.
Remember that ALL current members of ROY G BIV Gallery have their fees waived!
Please refer friends who are interested in becoming members to www.roygbivgallery.org. Non-members can still enter without joining, but would need to pay a $30 entry fee.

Call for Filmmakers
Beginning in September the Bureau for Open Culture at Columbus College of Art & Design will proudly welcome five international artist collectives to Columbus for participation in the exhibition Descent to Revolution. Artists will reside for varying lengths of time to produce projects specific to the social and economic conditions of the city. These projects will not take place inside the traditional space of the gallery but in concert with community and physical mediums outside of it. Always open to discoveries of process and collaboration, we invite documentary filmmakers to produce a short film about the exhibition, the artists, their works and the audience.
The filmmakers will have access to the artists, curators and participants to make a film that, hopefully, will both augment their filmmaking intents and act as a valuable, lasting record of Descent to Revolution. Filmmakers interested in documenting Descent to Revolution, we’d love to hear from you!
