The BECA Foundation is pleased to present the following Solo Exhibition opportunity to one artist or designer to exhibit new works of art or design at BECA ICAD (International Center for Art + Design) located at 527 St. Joseph Street, New Orleans, LA 70130, USA. This Call to Artists and Designers will remain open through May 3, 2010. Artists + designers at least 18 years of age from all countries are encouraged to submit their works for consideration according to the guidelines below. One artist or designer will be selected by BECA Foundation directors + advisors to receive the Solo Exhibition opportunity from June 5 – 26, 2010. Submitted works are not required to conform to any particular medium, style, theme or concept. Jean Pitman is a visual artist, educator, curator and contemporary arts advocate who recently relocated to Columbus from Honolulu. She has lived and worked in New York, Minneapolis, rural Wisconsin, Helsinki, rural Ireland, Manchester (UK) and Vilnius. Jean completed her BFA in Sculpture and Performance Art at the Minneapolis College of Art & Design, and an Interdisciplinary MFA and Graduate Certificate in Museum Studies and Visual Culture Studies at the University of Hawai’i. She also conducted graduate studies in Landscape Architecture at the Harvard University Graduate School.

Her diverse art work and projects have been exhibited widely and featured in publications such as Sculpture, A Publication of the International Sculpture Center, Espace Sculpture (Quebec), and Learning Through the Arts, A guide to the National Endowment for the Arts and Arts Education. Jean was a member of the curatorial team at The Soap Factory in Minneapolis for 7 years (www.soapfactory.org). She has completed several outdoor and indoor temporary, permanent and semi-permanent sculpture commissions herself, and has served on juries for numerous exhibitions and sculpture parks.

A project/process oriented community-based worker, she is presently the Educator for Youth Programs at the Wexner Center for the Arts specializing in working with teens. She believes that basic tools of self-determination lie at the heart of many of today’s contemporary art practices making them highly relevant for us all.

An International Competitive Exhibit of Works Exploring the Uncovered Human Form in Current Art

Manifest exhibits many kinds of works, from the most conceptual and experimental to more traditional. In fact we think it's important to have such a range in our repertoire. In our Drawing Center Studio we provide opportunities and instruction to professionals and students to study life-drawing. Although our studio is not limited to working just from the nude model, it is a core component in our curriculum, and our flagship studio offering.

So a year ago we asked ourselves - why not add another annual exhibit to our roster, this one dedicated to works that in some way depict, explore, or address the human nude form? The first exhibit turned out to be a huge success in terms of response from artists as well as critical praise and number of people visiting the gallery to see the exhibit.

This year we are excited to renew our invitation to artists to submit works in any media, of any style or genre, (abstract, conceptual, highly realistic, etc.), and of any size, for consideration in Manifest's second annual NUDE, an international competitive exhibit exploring the uncovered human form in current art.

In celebration of Manifest's fifth anniversary (January 2010) we are very proud to announce this next major step in Manifest Press's evolution in fulfilling the Manifest non-profit mission to stand for quality in the visual arts... The International PAINTING Annual.

The INPA will be a complementary project to the ongoing Drawing Annual (INDA). The goal of the INPA will be to support the recognition, documentation, and publication of excellent, current, and relevant works of painting from around the world. As a carefully designed high-end book, the INPA will enable Manifest to assemble a diverse array of works of painting by international artists, without the limitation of physical availability, gallery space, or shipping logistics. With this Manifest leverages its considerable experience in publication design specifically for works of art, with a high level of sensitivity to the artist's point of view.

In 2005 Manifest launched the International Drawing Annual project. In four completed volumes (the 5th is currently in production) the INDA has presented three hundred and three works by 166 artists from around the world, and distributed the books far and wide to collectors, patrons, libraries, museum bookstores, art students, professors, and artists. Thousands view the online supplemental resources provided with each publication. The project has gained a great deal of credibility over the past five years, making the INDA a respected source for a consistent, balanced, and intriguing sampling of excellent contemporary drawing. The INPA will parallel the Drawing Annual series, exploring and taking stock of this nearest kin to drawing, and bringing more excellent art by more artists to even more people than ever before.

Manifest's book and gallery projects have become highly competitive and prestigious events for artists to be involved with. And each new project brings different artists together, with new work, in new ways, and with always surprising results. Furthermore, Manifest's books are designed and printed with the utmost care and attention to design integrity, making them exquisite documents of the art contained within.

Both soft and hardcover versions of the INPA will be printed and available by spring of 2011.

Manifest ends its season with a call for current graduate students or
MFA/MA graduates since July 2009

Some say there is a glut of artists with MFA degrees in the world - that they are a dime a dozen. Unless academia is conferring this terminal fine art degree on anyone willing to pay the often staggering price for it, this devaluation of the degreed Master is indicative, we feel, of a systemic problem in society. The role of the master artist as cultural observer, intellectual mystic, and social healer is trivialized and misunderstood. Some suggest that an academic degree has no power to establish one's mastery of an art form - that only hard work and trial by fire in the 'real world' can do that. But these critics are, one might guess, those who either did not try, or could not survive the grueling critiques and endless all-nighters in the framework of the academic graduate process. Certainly, to say one is a Master is not to devalue other means of attaining excellence or status. But to have studied in the context of a university or college program, with rigorous requirements, and gained the terminal degree of Master surely warrants some merit. With this in mind this 4th Annual Master Pieces will seek to present the best works by the best new Masters in 2010.

The Greater Cleveland Regional Transit Authority (GCRTA) is soliciting public artists for submission of public art for the University Circle Rapid Transit Station. The station is one of the top four major transit hubs within the GCRTA public transit network. It serves 6-8 busy bus routes, is close to the HealthLine Bus Rapid Transit service, and is a major station on the RTA's Red Line running from East Cleveland to Cleveland Hopkins Airport. Given this amount of activity, the station is composed of several different elements all designed with a common architectural theme. The station is meant to be an iconic gateway to the Region, the City of Cleveland, Cleveland Heights, and into University Circle. Its proximity to historic Rockefeller and Ambler Park, Case Western Reserve University and a major urban arterial carrying 30,000 cars per day, combine to create a unique setting for this station.

“Black and white are the colors of photography. To me they symbolize the alternatives of hope and despair to which mankind is forever subjected.” - Robert Frank

What does "black and white" mean to contemporary photographers in the digital age? When Robert Frank made this observation, black-and-white film and silver prints were photography's most commonly used materials. Nearly a half century later they are approaching "alternative media" status. Or are they? Are the implications and meanings of black and white still central to photography's unique nature as a visual medium?

Submissions to this juried exhibition are limited only by your imagination and your photographic eye. Portraits, fashion, editorial, landscapes, documentary, conceptual - all of these genres, and others not named, are open for consideration.

Prints should take whatever form they need to in order to represent the continuum of gray tones that comprise your photographs. Whether the initial recording was made on film or pixels is immaterial. However, in the final assessment, prints will be judged on their merits. Qualities of form, content, and relation to traditions of black-and-white printing and visualization will be sought in the pool of submissions.

Formerly the artistic director of Minnesota Center for Photography (2003-2008) and the director of the McKnight Artist Fellowships for Photographers Program (1998-2008), George is currently a veteran presence at portfolio review events like Fotofest, Photolucida, Critical Mass, PhotoNOLA, and the Society for Photographic Education's regional and national conferences. In the last two years he juried regional and national exhibitions for the Coalition of Photographic Arts (Milwaukee), "New Directions 2009" at the Wallspace Gallery (Seattle), and IRevelar at the Naomi Silva Gallery in Atlanta.

So, with GUIDEBOOK Manifest sets out to present an exhibit which explores such work - an exhibit that may in fact serve as a guidebook to a creative, enlightened way of seeing and being in the world.

Every year Manifest calls for little works of art from around the world. Like short poetry, they are a challenge to craft with the same presence of their larger counterparts. Each exhibit brings in hundreds of powerful yet diminutive masterpieces for our jury to mull over. Inevitably we end up with a gallery full of diverse, compelling, and exquisite little gems. Manifest’s patrons eagerly await the Magnitude SEVEN event each year. So without further ado, we offer this call to artists to submit works no larger than seven inches in any dimension (any proportion). Standard presentation devices like mats and frames that are not considered part of the work of art are not limited by the 7" criteria.

Form in Current Art

Manifest exhibits many kinds of works, from the most conceptual and experimental to more traditional. In fact we think it's important to have such a range in our repertoire. In our Drawing Center Studio we provide opportunities and instruction to professionals and students to study life-drawing. Although our studio is not limited to working just from the nude model, it is a core component in our curriculum, and our flagship studio offering.

So a year ago we asked ourselves - why not add another annual exhibit to our roster, this one dedicated to works that in some way depict, explore, or address the human nude form? The first exhibit turned out to be a huge success in terms of response from artists as well as critical praise and number of people visiting the gallery to see the exhibit.

This year we are excited to renew our invitation to artists to submit works in any media, of any style or genre, (abstract, conceptual, highly realistic, etc.), and of any size, for consideration in Manifest's second annual NUDE, an international competitive exhibit exploring the uncovered human form in current art.

1st International Painting Annual (INPA)

A Competitive Annual Publication of Works of Contemporary Painting and
Writing about Painting

In celebration of Manifest's fifth anniversary (January 2010) we are very proud to announce this next major step in Manifest Press's evolution in fulfilling the Manifest non-profit mission to stand for quality in the visual arts... The International PAINTING Annual.

The INPA will be a complementary project to the ongoing Drawing Annual (INDA). The goal of the INPA will be to support the recognition, documentation, and publication of excellent, current, and relevant works of painting from around the world. As a carefully designed high-end book, the INPA will enable Manifest to assemble a diverse array of works of painting by international artists, without the limitation of physical availability, gallery space, or shipping logistics. With this Manifest leverages its considerable experience in publication design specifically for works of art, with a high level of sensitivity to the artist's point of view.

In 2005 Manifest launched the International Drawing Annual project. In four completed volumes (the 5th is currently in production) the INDA has presented three hundred and three works by 166 artists from around the world, and distributed the books far and wide to collectors, patrons, libraries, museum bookstores, art students, professors, and artists. Thousands view the online supplemental resources provided with each publication. The project has gained a great deal of credibility over the past five years, making the INDA a respected source for a consistent, balanced, and intriguing sampling of excellent contemporary drawing. The INPA will parallel the Drawing Annual series, exploring and taking stock of this nearest kin to drawing, and bringing more excellent art by more artists to even more people than ever before.

Manifest's book and gallery projects have become highly competitive and prestigious events for artists to be involved with. And each new project brings different artists together, with new work, in new ways, and with always surprising results. Furthermore, Manifest's books are designed and printed with the utmost care and attention to design integrity, making them exquisite documents of the art contained within.

Both soft and hardcover versions of the INPA will be printed and available by spring of 2011.

Manifest ends its season with a call for current graduate students or MFA/MA graduates since July 2009

Some say there is a glut of artists with MFA degrees in the world - that they are a dime a dozen. Unless academia is conferring this terminal fine art degree on anyone willing to pay the often staggering price for it, this devaluation of the degreed Master is indicative, we feel, of a systemic problem in society. The role of the master artist as cultural observer, intellectual mystic, and social healer is trivialized and misunderstood. Some suggest that an academic degree has no power to establish one's mastery of an art form - that only hard work and trial by fire in the 'real world' can do that. But these critics are, one might guess, those who either did not try, or could not survive the grueling critiques and endless all-nighters in the framework of the academic graduate process. Certainly, to say one is a Master is not to devalue other means of attaining excellence or status. But to have studied in the context of a university or college program, with rigorous requirements, and gained the terminal degree of Master surely warrants some merit. With this in mind this 4th Annual Master Pieces will seek to present the best works by the best new Masters in 2010.

Work at camp this summer! Use your artistic skills and passion to inspire kids to create interesting art.

Camp Lookout is a coed, noncompetitive summer camp in Northern Michigan. We offer residential camp sessions for kids ages 8-16. We foster in children a sense of community while encouraging creativity, independence, decision-making, exploration and friendship in a beautifully forested natural setting. We offer traditional camp activities like sailing, art, sports and a range of imaginative activities that staff and campers create. Our programming is creative and loosely structured, dependant largely on what our staff dream up. We are looking for an Art Director for the 2010 summer (from June 11th-August 14th).

Responsibilities

· coordinates general art program throughout the camp
· teaches art to campers and interested staff
· supervises art counselors; assists them in selecting appropriate projects, use of materials, etc
· plans/organizes and implements a progressive art program for each session of camp
· orders materials, maintains supplies, oversees use of art room and equipment
· motivates campers and staff towards the arts
· may do other non art activities as desired; may cover cabins for counselors on their days off,
· may be a cabin counselor during some sessions
· usually is part of the leadership team overseeing the day to day operation of the camp.

Qualifications

· Has completed at least one year of college and is at least 18 years of age.
· Likes working with kids
· Creative, artistic, adaptable
· Demonstrates responsibility and leadership skills

The hours are long, the pay is modest, there is little time off, the responsibility for other people's children can weigh heavily on you. But, the Human Rewards are great!

We're looking for robotics, performances, installations, short videos and films, web cam art, sculptures, stills, games, music and sound art, prints -- even paintings. If it utilizes digital, electronic, or analog technology, we're interested. High tech or low tech, it's all good.

We are featuring works by individual artists and artist collectives as well as art works created by community groups, clubs, and organizations around Ohio.

NEW ARTISTS RESIDENCY PROGRAM

Description: For the first time, in summer 2010, Emmanuel College in Boston will be offering a summer artists residency program for four artists. We will seek one artist from each of the following categories: ceramics; printmaking; photography; and non-specified medium but related in some way to issues of social justice. The residency will provide four artists with individual studio space in the Art Department for a two month period during the months of June and July. (arrival between 6/14 Monday-6/18Friday, departure between 8/16Monday-8/20 Friday )The program will provide artists with access to Art Department studios and living quarters in the Emmanuel dorms. Each artist will also receive a $2,000 stipend. In return for their residency, each artist will be required to complete the following: during their residency, devote two hours of their time to a presentation on their work to members of the Emmanuel community; give an artist’s talk some time during the 2010-11 academic year to the general public on the work completed at Emmanuel and its relationship to their larger body of work; and donate one work of art completed while at Emmanuel to the College.

Selection of Artists: Artists should submit a *portfolio, c.v. and statement of intent to the Art Department by March 12, 2010. Artists will be notified of their selection by April 2, 2010.
Artists selected for the social justice category must demonstrate a serious commitment to social justice either through the subjects of their art (e.g. addressing issues such as poverty, inequality, homelessness) or through their art making strategies (e.g. community-based projects).

*Portfolio requirement : 15-20 jpeg images of current work on a CD (Each image should be at least 300dpi, 6”x4.5”). Emmanuel College reserves the right to use images of works by selected artists for advertising purposes.

The purpose of the 2nd Call for Applications of 'Les Ateliers de Rennes' is to select a new artistic project and a team for the 2012 and 2014 editions of Les Ateliers de Rennes - Contemporary Art Biennial.

To participate, an application form will be available on the website www.artnorac.fr from January 4, 2010.

The candidates should form teams which must include at least one curator and one administrator. The theme should link economy/business and contemporary art. The rules of this contest will set the context and scope while allowing for great freedom in the execution. A budget of 2 million euros will be allocated for each edition.

Fellowship opportunity at Stone Summer Theory Institute, SAIC - Chicago

The Stone Summer Theory Institute is an intensive week of seminars, lectures, and panel discussions, which will be published as a series of books involving over 300 scholars. It is held each July in Chicago. Fellows are not expected to present papers, but are asked to do up to 2,000 pages of advance readings for the seminars.

This year's theme is 'Beyond the Aesthetic and the Anti-Aesthetic,' arguably one of the central puzzles of contemporary art practice. The choice between continuations of modernism (with its aesthetic values) and the various kinds of postmodernism that privilege politics, gender, identity, and other issues, remains a formative one for young artists, and continues to create deep divisions in the teaching and practice of art.

Faculty include Hal Foster, Jay Bernstein, and Eve Melzter.

OPEN CALL FOR LECTURE-PERFORMANCES AT JUST MADRID ART FAIR 2010

Open call for four lecture-performances for the project On the Table, organized by the Lisbon-based curatorial team Filipa Oliveira + Miguel Amado for the section Curators Desk at Just Madrid Art Fair 2010. Lecture-performance refers to the bringing together of performative and educational traditions within a pedagogical context. Artists can present their work or a specific project through an informal discussion with the audience, devising a discursive platform within the context of an art fair.

We are looking for proposals that consist of one night presentations with a maximum of 2 hours taking place in a four-square meters booth. The selected proposals have to be carried out by artists based in Madrid during the city's fair week (February 17-21) and cannot require any budget or specific equipment. Just Madrid Art Fair will take place between February 18-21 at El Matadero in Madrid and the lectures-performances will take place every night at 19H00, except on Sunday, which will be at 17H00.

• Artistic merits and competence: the professor is required to have experience in teaching and in international co-operation as well as extensive knowledge of the field of contemporary art.

• The professor is responsible for the teaching and development of site and situation specific arts in the degree programme of time and space arts.

• The professor is expected to actively engage in the development of the degree programme and the university.

The Sculpture Center announces its Call for Ohio Artists for the 2011 W2S Series, open through midnight, January 6, 2010. This call is open to early career sculptors and installation artists with an Ohio connection by birth, residency, or schooling, and the artists do not need to be currently living in Ohio to be considered. The artists must have finished their training or formal schooling and be no more than 10 years into their careers. Six artists will be given one-person exhibitions, accompanied by full color brochures, in the Main or Euclid Avenue Gallery of The Sculpture Center in early 2011. Tracing Lines Project, Call for Entries

Through this project, we aim to collect images of the lines that intersect our daily paths, telephone poles and electrical power lines, radio towers and other parts of the electrical grid and infrastructure that supports our lives that can be a beautiful nuisance to our eyes. The project began in southernCalifornia and Ohio in the US and we are now seeking to collect images from around the world, tracing the lines that connect us to the landscape.

Only digital submissions will be accepted, photographs taken using the iPhone and other mobile devices or other lower resolution images are invited as they are often linked to the geographic coordinates which will assist in tracing the lines across the globe.

Deadline for the first exhibition, Jan 1, 2010 11:59pm EST

There is no fee to submit, please email images to tracinglinesproject@gmail.com with your name and "submission" in the subject heading. The Kinsey Institute for Research in Sex, Gender and Reproduction is now accepting submissions of artworks from all artists 18 years and older creating work relating to human sexual behavior, gender and/or reproduction. We welcome a broad range of submissions exploring subjects including:

Sex, gender, sexuality, eroticism, reproduction, romantic relationships, the politics of sex and gender, human figure, sexuality and illness

The exhibit will explore the positive and negative ways these topics affect individuals, couples and/or society. Entries must be original works from medias including: painting, drawing, video art, installations, printmaking, photography, sculpture, ceramics, fibers, computer based art, or mixed media. “Open Village/Open Space”
Inaugural Artist Residencies & Exhibition

Open Village/Open Space is an examination of how an artist’s work is shaped within
a shared environment, addressing the intricacies of working in spaces whose use is
simultaneously private and public. The Nonstop facility allows its members to flesh
out concerns of freedom and constraint that occur when the public and private
collide. The goal of the residency/exhibition is to provide both physical and
conceptual workspaces that invite the artists to tackle these issues and the affect it
has on the creation of their work.

The residency is open to three artists for six weeks and starts December 7th 2009.
The exhibition opens Saturday January 23rd, 2010 in conjunction with the First
Annual Nonstop Benefit Gala.
Open Village/ Open Space Artist Residency project invites applications by artists
working in the southwestern Ohio region and will consider proposals by artists
working in all media and at any stage of their careers.

These Territories Three

December 8th, 2009 you have the opportunity to represent the state of Ohio in a mail art show housed within the BLANK Gallery in Gainesville, Florida. As long as you live in Ohio you are eligible. The parameters are by no means limited, as long as your object, painting, poem, photograph, or whatever you decide is “art” fits within an envelope, a box, a paper bag, you choose the vehicle that gets the object here, as long as the package is no larger than 7 1/2 by 5 1/8 by 14 3/8 inches. (This is the size of an average shoebox)

Feel free to spruce up the exterior of your package but keep in mind, it’s what’s inside that counts.

The theme of the show is “roots”, interpret this anyway you would like. Three individuals are curating this show, one from Kentucky, one from Illinois, and myself from Sunbury, Ohio. The plan is to take one idea, propose it to three states and try to see the differences in how the word “roots” is translated into our different cultures, societies, regions and so on.

Planned Parenthood is sponsoring a women's empowerment mural and we need YOUR help!! We need you to submit to this mural AND spread to spread the word to anyone you think may be interested.

And...you don't have to be a professional muralist to feel like your submission is mural-worthy. Graphic designers, illustrators, painters, artistically-minded women, doodlers, etc. are all strongly encouraged to submit. The deadline is TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 10th at 6:00 p.m.

I am organizing a fundraiser for the making of a documentary about Aaron Hibbs attempt to break the world hula hooping record. This attempt will take place on October 22nd, and the documentary, which is already underway, will document the entire process, all 120 hours of hooping. The fundraiser will take place on October 9th, and will consist of a silent auction, dinner, and dancing. The dinner and auction will begin at 6pm and the dancing will commence at 9pm. It will be $10 for the whole night and $5 for just the dancing portion. The event will be catered by a local business TBA.

I am looking for artists to be a part of this amazing inspirational community event by donating a piece of work for the silent auction. Artists can choose to donate 50% of its selling price or more if you'd like!

Kettering, September 17, 2009- Help shelter pets by creating a poster

that encourages people to adopt their pets from animal shelters.

Rosewood Arts Centre and SICSA (The Society for the Improvement of

Conditions of Stray Animals) have teamed up to help spread the word that

shelter pets make great pets. The artwork can feature any pets(s) and

can be made out of any material other than digital or photo. The

artwork must be 11”x17” (vertical or horizontal). The poster

contest for artists in 5th-8th grades runs now until Monday October 5th.

Winners will be notified on October 12th.

The winning posters will be on display at Rosewood Arts Centre then

relocate to SICSA for display and auction at the Red Dog Auction (2010)

to help raise money for SICSA programs. The winning work will not be

returned. The juror is Amy Kollar Anderson, Artist and Gallery

Coordinator for the Rosewood Gallery. Winners receive gift certificates

from The Greene, Buffalo Wild Wings, Milanos and Rosewood Arts Centre

and receive a SICSA t-shirt and tote filled with goodies.

for immediate release – Cleveland, OH: All You Can Eat posits that the city of Cleveland is of a high metabolic rate, burning through ideas faster than they can be ingested. In response it presents a binge of possible futures excessive in scale and exhaustive in scope, ideas both raw and cooked, half-baked and hair-brained.

All You Can Eat is a collective exhibition of architectural ideas for vacant sites in Cleveland, Ohio. If Cleveland has a surplus of anything it’s vacant land, and the organizers have faith that others, like them, have favorite sites around the city upon which they’d love to unleash their new (or old) tricks. This exhibition hopes to provide the impetus and opportunity for many to unleash said tricks in a publicly visible way.

All You Can Eat is not intended to generate “shovel-ready” proposals but to instigate dialogue; it is a forum to encourage the development of new concepts both aesthetic and programmatic. The organizers charge participants with being as outlandish and uncompromising as they can be.

Participants may choose any vacant site within the city limits of Cleveland on which to site their proposal. Proposed interventions on existing buildings are also permitted as long as the building is vacant. All scopes and scales are considered acceptable as long as the site is within the city limits of Cleveland. Detailed knowledge of the proposed site is recommended but not necessarily required.

All You Can Eat is open to creative individuals of all sorts; artists, architects, designers, students in the above disciplines, and other interested parties are all encouraged to make proposals. Participants may work individually or as a group. Those familiar with Cleveland’s problems and potentials (current residents, expatriates, et cetera) are especially encouraged to participate. Those familiar with the cultural conditions of Rust Belt cities more generally are similarly encouraged. Preference will be given to projects produced specifically for the exhibition. Client-commissioned works are not eligible.

An exhibition of entries will be displayed in the Euclid Avenue Gallery of The Sculpture Center at 12210 Euclid Avenue in Cleveland during the last weekend of October. It will be open to the public Friday October 30th from 5-10 PM and Saturday October 31st from Noon-6 PM. A roundtable discussion of the exhibited projects will take place at 3pm. Get there early for the fresh stuff! Select entries will also be included in a publication available for purchase, to be released in the new year as part of the POST Architecture Journal a Cleveland based, Great Lakes focused publication.

No registration fee is required for participation. Individuals wishing to participate should send a one-page project proposal (text or image) to the organizers by the 30th of September for advance approval. Exhibition space is limited, so advance approval can only be granted to a select number of proposals. All approved submittals will be exhibited. Space will remain open for a selection of submittals not receiving advance approval, but exhibition cannot be guaranteed for all. All submittals — approved or unapproved — are due in digital format to the organizers by Friday October 22. The Locative Cinema Commission is a joint project of ZER01: The Art and Technology Network, the Banff New Media Institute at The Banff Centre, and Sundance Institute's New Frontier Initiative.

We are soliciting proposals that can generalize the platform of specific places such as San Jose, California,Banff, Canada, or Park City, Utah to describe the world that you want people to see.

The commission will be realized via a residency at the Banff New Media Institute, to be completed by July 2010. The new work will be presented at the 2010 01SJ, the 2011 Sundance Festival, and the 2011 Banff Summer Arts Festival. As such, the work must be realizable in San Jose, Park City, and Banff.

There is a 4,500 USD artist commissioning fee, up to 5,000 USD for production and residency costs, plus substantial in kind support from The Banff Centre. In addition, reasonable presentation costs, including necessary travel, will be covered.

Exhibition: Pilgrimage Through the Centuries is an exhibition intended to integrate contemporary interpretations of “pilgrimage” with traditional and historical ones. Artists are encouraged to submit work that speaks to and exemplifies the concept/practice of pilgrimage in their own lives. The scope of the exhibition is intentionally broad embracing the most traditional interpretation of this idea as well as the most abstract. Themes of the work could include, but are not limited to: personal journeys, the relevance of pilgrimage in contemporary life, historical accounts of pilgrimage, reflections on historical and/or personal pilgrimage sites…

Artwork submissions now being accepted for an exhibition titled, Pilgrimage Through the Centuries, at the LeFevre Art Gallery on the OSU-Newark Campus. The exhibition is being planned in conjunction with the activities surrounding Newark Earthworks Day 2009 in Newark, Ohio.

Newark Earthworks Day is public educational event celebrating Native American culture, art, and music. This year’s theme, “Newark Earthworks: A Place of Pilgrimage,” addresses the notion of the journey as it relates to the geographic and social history of the Newark Earthworks. This year’s event includes a “Walk with the Ancients” in which participants will trace the 60 mile path of the Great Hopewell Road that linked earthworks in Chillicothe and Newark. The walk will begin in Chillicothe on October 10 and will finish in Newark on October 16. With the Call for Entries deadline being only three weeks away, we understand that a busy schedule may lessen the time available to prepare and send in a physical entry. For your convenience, we are now accepting entries via email.

Just make sure to follow the entry procedures below – instead of dealing with burning a CD, all you need to do is attach your files. Entry Procedure
For e-mail consideration, the artist must submit 2 jpg formatted files that are no larger than 1MB. Files should be labeled with the artist’s last name as followed: lastname01.jpg and lastname02.jpg.

Beginning in September the Bureau for Open Culture at Columbus College of Art & Design will proudly welcome five international artist collectives to Columbus for participation in the exhibition Descent to Revolution. Artists will reside for varying lengths of time to produce projects specific to the social and economic conditions of the city. These projects will not take place inside the traditional space of the gallery but in concert with community and physical mediums outside of it. Always open to discoveries of process and collaboration, we invite documentary filmmakers to produce a short film about the exhibition, the artists, their works and the audience.

The filmmakers will have access to the artists, curators and participants to make a film that, hopefully, will both augment their filmmaking intents and act as a valuable, lasting record of Descent to Revolution. Overview:

The ceramics program at UW Madison is part of an internationally known research university with a remarkable history. The ceramics area just moved into a new, state of the art facility in the newly renovated Art Lofts. The studio has all new equipment and kilns and is a beautiful, light filled space. Formerly a university warehouse, the Art Lofts now houses the Art Department’s glass lab, metal sculpture foundry, ceramics, graduate darkroom and digital facilities, and papermaking areas, along with studio spaces for more than 60 faculty and graduate students, and public spaces for the display of student and faculty artwork. Our other facilities and operations are housed in the George L. Mosse Humanities building on central campus, a few short blocks away. Graduate students in ceramics take part in a three-year, interdisciplinary program that emphasizes the relationship between the field of ceramics and diverse contemporary approaches to artistic practice, theory and criticism. The entire graduate program (roughly 80 students) emphasizes advanced visual research and includes extensive one-on-one interaction with faculty, guest critics and visiting artists. We actively encourage a wide range of material practices, experimentation and collaboration with other areas of the art department and the larger university. The ceramics area has one full time faculty member, Paul Sacaridiz, and a one year visiting artist appointment. The Gothic Funk Nation is currently accepting submissions for the second issue of its arts journal, The Paramanu Pentaquark. The first issue, available by CD-ROM and online (for free at http://www.gothicfunk.org) was released in February 2009. The journal is an eclectic collection of music, painting, photography, poetry, and purpose that runs a line from the evocative to the visceral. Common themes include diversity, emotional intensity, and the urgency of communication; this is not a project given to passive pessimism or reluctant daydreams.

The Franklinton Arts District is looking for art for its upcoming Go West event. Go West is an all day art event, taking place on West Broad Street. This event features three indoor art venues curated by FAD board members, each with a different theme and focus.

SHOWS

"The Circus," curated by Nikos Rutkowski and Sarah Weinstock, focuses on the elements of the circus: freak shows, clowns, performing animals, etc. Performance, installation work, and traditional 2-D and 3-D work are all welcome.

"Mythos," curated by Sara Adrian, concentrates on both cultural and/or personal themes of myth and folklore. Featured in a small classic space, this show is limited to 2-Dimensional work only, and entries are limited to 18" x 24" or smaller.

"Urban Lights," curated by Laura Garcia and Elizabeth Gerdeman, features art that incorporates urban aesthetic, subject matter, concepts, and/or utilizes lights or electricity as a component or catalyst for the finished work.

ENTRY PROCEDURE

For consideration, artists must send an e-mail with up to 3 submissions (in JPG, TIFF, or PDF format) labeled with your name to gowestsubmissions@gmail.com. Please include the show(s) you are applying to in the subject line. In your e-mail, please specify the title, medium, and dimensions of each submission.

DEADLINE

All submissions must be received by midnight on Friday, May 15th.

This special event will take place on Sunday, June 14, 2009, from 1:00 - 5:00 PM at Gallant Woods Preserve, located at 2151 Buttermilk Hill Road, delaware, Ohio 43015. Set up begins at 11:30 AM.

Preservation Parks encourages you to display crafts. give demonstrations, sell merchandise, perform, and express your special talents during ART IN THE PARK! Your original art and unique talent inspires and delights us all.

The Wexner Center exhibits work created by artists from around the globe. We welcome visitors from a range of backgrounds and communities. In order to serve a diverse audience, we need a diverse team.

We are now taking applications for our 2009-2010 class of Student Docents. Contemporary art challenges viewers to face and explore potentially provocative topics. Docents lead meaningful gallery discussions and push visitors to experience art from a range of perspectives. They guide the public in exploring issues of identity, race, sexuality, politics, and more. An academic background in the arts isn’t necessary—but a love for the arts and people is.

Join us and learn more on May 14 at 6:30pm. You’ll hear about the training program, get your questions answered, and tour the galleries with one of our student docents.

This is a large pre-college event at Ohio State University with several thousand people attending the event. Our sponsored award judges have certificates for recipients of their award, and the calligrapher would possibly do in the neighborhood of 100-150 certificates. We are looking for a volunteer, but are absolutely willing to discuss compensation for the time spent at the event that morning.

How to Apply
• Read this document in its entirety.
• Submit digital images of up to (3) entries (jpeg or tiff formats).
• One detail shot per entry is required and allowed.
• The size of your digital Images must be under 1meg; under 500 K is preferable.
• Provide artist’s name, and title, medium and dimensions of each submission.
• Submit digital images by e-mail to columbuscrossroadsofohio@earthlink.net by 5:00 pm on July 31, 2009

Requirements

• All entries must be original works created by the artist, or original works from collectors.

• The exhibit review panel will bar all works altered from the submitted digital images.

• Because this is an exhibit to celebrate Columbus, Ohio, and the fact that it is located in a State Office Building and the possibility that families and school groups will view the exhibit, art should be appropriate for this venue.

• The exhibit review panel reserves the right to refuse to display any accepted work for any reason.

• 2-D art work accepted for display must be properly wired for hanging. Artists submitting 3-D art such as sculptures will need to designate the amount of space required for their art and provide pedestals if necessary. The Ohio Building Authority has a number of enclosed cases available for 3-D art. Artists may need to assist in installing work in these cases.

• Reasonable care will be exercised by the exhibit coordinators and its agents and the Ohio Building Authority; however, neither the exhibit coordinators, their agents nor the Ohio Building Authority are liable for loss or damage of work either in its care or during transport. Insurance is the responsibility of the individual artists or individual collectors.

• Submission of an entry through emailing a jpeg or tiff of the art shall constitute agreement on the part of the artist or collectors to all conditions set forth in this prospectus.

Delivery and Pick Up of Art
All artwork approved by the exhibit review panel for the “Columbus - the Crossroads of Ohio” exhibit must be delivered on August 27 and August 28, 2009 between the hours of 2:30 pm and 5:30 pm to the James A Rhodes State Office Tower loading dock. The loading dock is located in the alley behind the James A Rhodes State Office Tower at 30 E. Broad St., Columbus, Ohio.

Upon delivering artwork, each artist will be required to sign a form restating the above requirements. Artists must pick up their art after the exhibit has ended on October 1 at the loading dock between the hours of 2:30 pm and 5:30 pm. If someone else will be dropping off or picking up your art, please notify the exhibit coordinators in advance.

The Experimental Media and Performing Arts Center Now Accepting Applications for its Scholars and Researches in Residence and its Artists in Residence Programs.

Troy, NY - The Experimental Media and Performing Arts Center (EMPAC) is dedicated to advancing research and artistic production at the intersection of technology, media and the time based arts (media arts, video, music, dance, theater. etc.).

To that end, EMPAC is please to announce that it is accepting applications for both its Scholars and Researchers in Residence and its Artists in Residence programs. There are no deadlines for applications, which will be accepted and reviewed throughout the year.

The Artists in Residence program is available to individuals, groups, ensembles or collectives to develop new approaches and new works in the time-based arts.

The intent of the program is to support work that cannot be created or realized elsewhere. As EMPAC is part of a technological research university and carries the word "experimental" in its name, goals may turn out to be unobtainable or dead ends, be they artistic or technical. Residencies may be used to take risks and experiment with new ideas, which are not necessarily attached to specific performances or a finished work.

Along with a state-of-the art facility, EMPAC offers residents the logistical support of experts in audio video and stage technologies, as well as critical discourse with an interdisciplinary curatorial team.

Residencies may be for the entire duration of a project or for any phase of development. There is no present limit on the length of time or frequency of residencies during the course of a project. Prospective artists may apply for limited travel and accommodation support, but also are encouraged to come with their own means of support.

The Scholars and Researchers in Residence Program is available to visiting scholars and researchers whose research is directed at the intersection of physical, human-scale environments and the technological domain.
