Arts Journal Accepting Submissions for its Second Issue

Chicago, Illinois, 27 April 2009

The Gothic Funk Nation is currently accepting submissions for the second issue of its arts journal, The Paramanu Pentaquark. The first issue, available by CD-ROM and online (for free at http://www.gothicfunk.org) was released in February 2009. The journal is an eclectic collection of music, painting, photography, poetry, and purpose that runs a line from the evocative to the visceral. Common themes include diversity, emotional intensity, and the urgency of communication; this is not a project given to passive pessimism or reluctant daydreams.

Our second issue will be published this upcoming August, and art in any medium may be submitted via our website at http://www.gothicfunk.org/parapenta/submissions/. Submissions will be considered as Images, Sounds, or Words, and artists will be notified of our decision within one to two months. In addition to publication, accepted artists will receive a free copy of a limited print CD-ROM of the second issue, and an invitation to present their work at an official launch event hosted in Chicago. While we do archive previously published work, archives cannot be accessed online and are only available to individuals upon request; this is for the protection of our artists.

To submit your work, please visit http://www.gothicfunk.org/parapenta/submissions/
To pursue the first issue of the Paramanu Pentaquark, please visit http://www.gothicfunk.org/parapenta/01/.

Manifest Creative Research Gallery: FINAL CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS

3rd Annual
MASTER PIECES
An International Competitive Juried Exhibit of Works by New Masters
A call for current graduate students or 2009 MFA/MA graduates (as of opening of exhibit)

Deadline: June 5th

An annual offering, this 3rd installment of the Master Pieces project will continue to reveal the intensity and professionalism of students working towards their terminal academic degree in the field of art or design. The exhibit successfully draws participation by artists working in a variety of approaches and media, and joins them together from afar in one momentous presentation which introduces them and highlights their work to the world.

Often the most exceptional work comes out of these artists' immersion in their culture of study and intellectual pursuit. Manifest's goal, therefore, is to select works that in the truest sense of the word are contemporary masterpieces - works that set the standard of quality that the artist is expected to maintain throughout his or her professional career. The exhibit catalog for this show will serve as a visual documentation of these artists' own benchmarks for years to come.
